Essie - Fifth Avenue

For me, certain nail polish colours have been trickier to get used to than others but about a year ago I decided to try to get over my fear of red nail polish. Prior to that I had liked the way it looked on others but just couldn't get used to seeing it on my nails. Then I came across OPI Color So Hot it Berns and it slowly evolved from there and I eventually warmed up to the idea of wearing reds. Now I really like it and not so long ago I bought several more red lacquers. Today it's time for one of those lacquers, Essie's Fifth Avenue.

Fifth Avenue is a bright red creme polish with just a hint of orange undertones. To achieve opacity I had to apply two coats and I have nothing bad to say about the formula, it was very easy to work with. This kind of red is very appealing to me and even though I have very fair complexion I think it works very well with my skin tone. And, this is just a perfect pick-me-up shade in the middle of the dark and dull winter.

You make me want to put on a bright red today! :) Sooo pretty! :)

And I'm in the same boat with reds... didn't really like them until at some point something snapped and my red-count is at 30+ at the moment. o_0

Looks great on you! I have found that blue-toned reds don't suit me, but I love orange-y reds!

This red looks PERFECT for you! And I agree about this being a great pick-me-up shade for winter -- I'm wearing OPI Red My Fortune Cookie now and it more than does the job!

Red intimidates me very much still! But I love this red on you!(I'm still in the stage where I like it on others. Hopefully like you, my next step is trying on out.)

Cali369: Thank you!

mylittlevanities: Nice to hear I'm not the only one out there. Wow, 30! I only have around 10, I think.

Alyssa: Thanks!

Pat: It's very nice :)

Annie: Visst gör det? Även om det är ganska ok väder här så passade det bra när snön kom.

Nailtastic: Ja. Det måste du. ;)

Aneela: It's always nice to find out what works and what doesn't work on you :)

Blace: It's definitely one of my favourites!

Rach: The reds really get the job done!

Sminkan: Visst är den!?

Jane : Thanks!

Ami: You'll get there. It took me quite some time to get used to wearing reds but don't stress about it. It will happen one day :)

Elsa P.: Thank you! Sometimes I'm like that too. I like certain nail polish more on others than on myself :)

Lililala: Thank you, that's so sweet!

I just bought this exact shade but when it dried it darkened weirdly and I now have strange stripes of the orange-red I wanted mixed with burgundy. I used some quick-dry drops on my nails after painting them, and a sally hansen top coat. Have you ever found this colour to darken with any topcoats or quick dry formulas?

I was so disappointed, your nails looks how I wish mine would.

Gabriella: Oh no, what a shame :( I have never used quick drops so I can't say if they affect the colour. I only use top coat and I used CND Air Dry when I did this manicure. I've never experienced that the top coat changes the colour of the nail polish that much. And unfortunately I've only worn this colour once so I can't say if it is particularly sensitive to top coat.

I would skip the quick drops and just use the top coat, perhaps it works better? Good luck!
